United are reportedly willing to let Aaron Wan Bissaka go this winter to fund a replacement.
Manchester United are said to be considering their options at right back, marking the position as a priority ahead of January.
As per Fabrizio Romano, Erik ten Hag wants one more right back to add to his squad as he looks to bolster the squad in the winter transfer window.
This news comes as Diogo Dalot is in some of the best form in his United career. The Portuguese full-back is the only player to have started every game under Ten Hag.
Unfortunately for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, it would appear that he has slipped out of Ten Hag’s plans for the United squad going forward.
Wan-Bissaka has only made the match-day squad six times this season as a result of injuries.
However, in each of those six games, he has remained on the bench as an unused substitute.
Of course, the World Cup will be a huge factor in United’s transfer activities this winter as well as in how the squad will be shaped when domestic football returns.
When asked about an additional right back, Ten Hag said: “I know every club at the top level always needs backup and competition.”
Both Dalot and Wan-Bissaka have been the subject of interest from other clubs in the previous transfer window.
Diogo Dalot has been on Barcelona’s shortlist for some time now, however, both Dalot and Ten Hag have reassured fans that he is committed to the club.
On the other hand, a return to Crystal Palace looked likely for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, although the clubs were misaligned, with United preferring a transfer compared to Palace’s preference for a loan.
It is unlikely we will see the departure of Wan-Bissaka without the introduction of an additional right back first.
United had the option of signing Sergino Dest over the summer, though he will not be available by January.
So who else can United look to add competition with?
If Wan-Bissaka was to leave United this winter, there are numerous options for Ten Hag.
The club’s simple choice would be to recall Ethan Laird from his loan at Championship side QPR.
However if United were looking to spend money, they could look to add Jeremie Frimpong to the side. It is said that United have already identified the 21-year-old as a target for the upcoming windows.
